Failing to learn from mistakes
Hey, Friends!
Let me start by making an apology. I'm sorry for sending this week's newsletter late. I have been quite busy, and the circumstances just weren't right for writing.
I'll make sure to send a weekly update each week on Fridays at 10:00 A.M. from the upcoming week. I am currently quarantined at the Visitors' Hostel 2, IIT Kanpur. I'll be set free on 25th March (hopefully).
We need to talk about something - how to avoid making dumb mistakes. I'll explain in a minute what that has to do with last week's events. I went home in March last year, intending to take a short vacation like most people. However, this pandemic started, and we got stuck at home for a year (remember that?).
For some reason, I did not take my original documents with me when I went home last year. I always carry my original documents with me (because some unpleasant things happened in the past) when I go home, but this particular time I did not. Consequently, months passed by, and then I got shortlisted for a few interviews.
The interviews were held just this week. I had to go to Delhi to attend the interviews, and hence the quarantine and all on coming back to IIT Kanpur. The interviews required original documents, so I had to come back to campus, quarantine, get the documents, travel to Delhi, attend the interviews, and then return to the campus and quarantine again!
That does not sound like a lot, but traveling on a very short timeline is very tiring. I left for Delhi on the 15th evening, attended one interview the next morning, had to get a few documents sorted, get tested for COVID-19, and then attend another interview the day after.
I am just glad that I managed to get through it. Fortunately, the interviews went well, in my opinion. The results would probably be out in a month or so. I'll tell you what the interviews were about next week.
So, the takeaway from this week is - always carry your original documents with you if you are going away somewhere, even if it is for a day. You never know what will happen. This is especially important as I've made abundantly clear if you live away from home like me.
I hope you had a great week. In the next newsletter, I'll talk about what interviews I attended and answer any questions. So, if you want me to answer anything, hit <reply> now, and send your questions.
Stay Safe. Take care!
- Debashish Reang
P.S.: I would also try to insert more interesting music, movies, articles, quotes, tweets, and everything else that I discover through the week in the newsletters starting next week.
